Well I'd actually still be somewhat on the side of Israel here, even though I don't agree with their foreign policy of trying to conquest the entire West Bank (an absolutely idiotic task). If we look at the two sides in this war, we can see a clear divide between intentions. Israel has so far aimed at getting rid of Hamas, not the populace of Gaza. Collateral damage - as ugly a word that is - is inevitable, seeing that Hamas likes to use civilian areas as their rocket launch sites. And the fact that war always has side casualties.
Hamas troops, on the other hand, are aiming at the destruction of Israeli citizens. They're shooting rockets into civilian areas that serve no other purpose than to house civilians. They use terror tunnels to invade onto the soil of Israel, with the apparent goal of causing widespread destruction on Israel's own territory. Hamas, not Palestine or Israel, seems to me to be the people we ought to oppose here. They made peace impossible by their policy of "ignore everything else but Israel must be destroyed". That's how it reads in their charter that states their long-term goals. Therefore as long as Hamas is in power, there doesn't seem to be any chance for peace. Instead Israel should work with whatever alternative powers there are in Palestine, which they have failed at.
I can understand Israel somewhat. From the very beginning they've been surrounded by hostile nations and have had to fight several bloody wars to protect their people and sovereignty. Israel has been brutalized by these wars, as it has been surrounded by hostile forces throughout almost all of its existence. I encourage you to study the bloody history of Israel if you want to find out the details.
So in short, I'm slightly-somewhat with Israel and for a double-state solution. Israel shouldn't be vilified to the extent they are nowadays - they don't deserve it. Hamas should be reserved that place.
