First off, thanks for answering!
Yeah, the first idea is one I've had for a while and I'm really sort of in love with. I think it'd be tons of fun with the right group of people. And of course the players sort of decide collectively what the party will be. Will they be cops/detectives/some sort of special task force designed to take down a notorious crime family? Will the party be members of an established gang/criminal organization? Or will you start as a bunch of nobodies, just arrived in the big city, with high hopes and big dreams, aiming to start your own gang and one day be the biggest mob in town? The players really do get to choose what kind of campaign it would be. That said, no matter the choice, there will be a very strong gangster vibe, even if you are cops because you're trying to take them down. As for the system, it'd be a fairly simple one, only a few stats and not a lot of gear, so it'd also be quite heavy on the RP side of things.
As for the colonizing one, it'd basically work as, the players either start out as or right at the start are forced into being the leaders of the colony. Most colonists would of course be NPC's. The players would have a lot of options and the system I have in mind for this would be a bit more complicated in terms of the colony management. The added benifit to this one is we could have as many players as were interested, and do it sort of "episodic" with each session. If some people cant make a session, their characters are just busy doing some other work for the colony. I think it'd also have a "Message" system on the forums, so it'd almost be like 3/4th's RPG and 1/4th forum RP.
