im just saying, it's comparing apples to oranges. gladiators were actors while legionaries were actual fighters. and otttiger, just because somebody is "trained" to wound, doesn't mean that they wouldn't kill the legionaries in a fight to the death. That's just absurd.

Gladiators could probably kill easily if they wanted to, but it is a fair assumption that they weren't trained for efficient killing. Because a legionary had pila/darts that could be thrown to cripple shields/people, or even used as spears. And the Gladius (stabbing weapon) was replaced by the longer Spatha(slashing weapon) later on in the imperium, somewhere around year 0.

well yeah but we will never now because everyone is different in a fight how strong how flexible how aggressive not everyone was the same as gladiator or roman i think it would be close but its just my opinion and btw i think that a gladiator know how serious a roman is that he dont need to make a show if you know what i mean
