WoW was 10$ a month.
That's why I inherently dislike MMO's. There are two business models that work for them, either a monthly subscription which ends up being a huge money sink or they are free to play but essentially have "pay to win" which makes it unfair and unbalanced to anyone who cant/doesn't want to pay the money to be on the same level as those that can/do.
Edit: About the different payment amounts, what I always thought would be a good solution would be people pay X amount of money for X amount of game time, meaning it carry overs between months. So like I pay $10 for 10 hours of game playing time (just an example amount), and I would be more OK with that.
About it being a bad marketing move, it will only hurt them long term, but as for the here and now (which is when most games make most of there money) they will do really well because of the hype and people not being responsible.

The resin a MMO’s charges monthly is because they constantly have to work on the game fix bugs release new content keep the server running proper and no lag I mean it takes a lot more time and money to run a MMO then it does a game that release and is done and dear god I hope this never goes free to play it ruins everything when a MMO does that. Also look at games now a lot of multiplayer games including mount and blade want you to by a severer so there is a monthly cost. For a MMO you pay 15 bucks for new content a server to play on and you don't have to worry about lag form the server 90% of the time. Also you have your support that is there to help when you have problems.
So I myself don't mind paying the 15 bucks to help make the game better and be success.

Oh I completely understand why they have to charge the monthly fee, which I think they have every right to do, its just personally I prefer to spend a lump sum for a game and that be that. Again, its up to the individual to decide what they want to spend their money on. For me, I just don't have the time to play MMO's which therefore means its a waste of money for me.

Thing about Warband is that you're not required to pay for a server its an option. All games have to constantly work and fix bugs, not just MMOs. The monthly charge is mainly for the server, it has nothing to do with fixing bugs. If they put in new content everyday, I would be highly impressed and then I would consider $15 a month ok. But I highly doubt they will. Hell, I doubt they will put in new content every month, unless they do some DLC bullshit. There are plenty of MMOs that are cheaper that do not lag. Hell, Star Wars: The Old Republic is free to play, even though a crappy game, it doesn't lag. I'm just saying that 15 dollars is a bit ridiculous. Within a year of playing you will spend $180 on one game, not including the initial buying price and/or DLC prices. Anyways, like Darin said, people may spend their money how they please.

Like i have said many times i am not a fan of MMOs.
Good example of what MMO should work like is Guild Wars. You buy game once and you can play it for your life. My brother loves playing GW 1 and 2 and i think developer that makes it is pretty successful so imo the path Bethesda have chosen is the path that will get em the most money. It certainly wasn't made to make all customers happy.

For me the biggest problem is that you have to pay monthly. I would much rather pay for a certain number of hours at a time, like pay $5 for a day or something, that way I could at least KNOW I was getting my moneys worth.
At $15 a month, how much actual time is the average person going to spend playing the game? Not to mention if you are someone like me who likes to play a variety of different games, chances are you won't get your money worth out of it.
I am not opposed to companies having a subscription fee, I mean in certain cases it is kind of required (for MMO's they need the money for server support, and the only alternative is Free to play and make it so people can "pay to win" etc which makes the game unbalanced and ultimately makes it a bad game IMO), so I understand that its required, I just don't like the way they do the subscriptions. Its very clever I will give them that, but again, its a waste of money cause most people probably cant spend enough time playing the game each month to justify the $15 price tag.
Anyway like I said before, its the people's choice how they spend their money, but I for one will not be spending it on this game (though to be honest I never was, regardless if it had a monthly payment or not, hell I wouldn't have played it if were free to play).

5$ a day? If you played more than 3 days a month, you would be worse off than the ones that payed 15$ for the whole month.

To Kohath - $5 a day was just an example, it would need to be cheaper and ideally it would be by the hour, like they do in South Korea. But that's because people there are so addicted to WoW that the government had to make it so each person has a limited amount of hours they can by for a certain period of time.

My main will be Aldmeri Dominion. I will definitely have a character from the Ebonheart Pact though. I found Daggerfall Covenant to be quite boring in the beta, so I will not be playing them.
